My view on the article about chinese building up there army, and making sure it is a stable and strong fleet, is that China wants to reclaim what was rightfully theirs in the first place. First off, as an American we shouldnt be like the late 1800s-1900s Great Britain, seizing everything and controling everything that they to. I think we should back out of taiwan because otherwise the chinese will start a war, and we dont not have the king of economy to be getting into another war right after we just backed out of iraq.
China was left in a really bad place after the opium wars with Britain, people were in withdraw from not having any opium in there system for a while now. Think of a cocaine addict recently going to a rehabilitation center to get rid of the addiction, now take that idea and place it on the whole chinese population which was roughly 500 million people, going into shock. The emperor of China could not control the riot that was happing throught his towns. Britain took over China AGAIN, making it sign an open door policy which made it open all of its trading posts.
The Difference between China back then and China now, is a tremendous difference, China now is about to surpass the most wealthiest and strongest country in the world (US) with its increasing military power, and their, over 2 billion population which is about 4x the amount of back then. The way China is now and the way they were before, they might as well have been two completely different countries. China is no longer controled by outer countries' drugs and politics.
